What is a professional development unit (PDU)?

A PDU is the unit of measure awarded for successfully completing PMI approved learning and professional service activities. PDUs are required to maintain PMI certifications including the PMP certification.

How are PDUs awarded?

A PDU is awarded when a PMI certified professional submits a request for approval of a professional activity on www.pmi.org. to earn PDUs.

How much work do I have to complete to earn a PDU?

One PDU is awarded for each hour spent in a structured learning or other approved activity that qualifies for PDUs. All Kapur workshops and webinars qualify for PDUs. 

What is the Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) program?

The Continuing Certification Requirements Program (CCR) supports the ongoing educational and professional development of PMI certified PMPs.

Do I need PDUs?

If you are not yet a PMI-certified PMP, you need PDUs to qualify to take the PMP exam (along with other qualification requirements).

If you are already a PMI-certified professional, you are required to satisfy the Continuing Certification Requirements program (CCR) by earning PDUs to maintain your certification.

How many PDUs do I need?

If you are not yet a PMI-certified PMP, you need 35 PDUs as part of the qualification requirements to apply to PMP to sit for the PMP exam.

If you are a PMI-certified PMP, you must earn 60 PDUs during each 36-month cycle to maintain your PMP credential.

How do I report PDUs?

You report completed PDU activities to PMI using the PMP professional development activities reporting form, also known as the CCR activity reporting form.

Navigate to www.pmi.org, login to your profile, and navigate to the section to report PDUs.

  • You may cancel an event within 15 business days prior to the scheduled start date, and we will gladly apply your registration to another regularly scheduled event.  We will apply your registration fee to an event of equal or lesser value. Kapur honors a credit for a period of 365 days from the date it was issued.
  • If you do not attend an event for which you are registered or request your registration fee be applied to a future event, within 15 business days of your event’s start date, you will be charged in full for the value of your registration

How do I qualify for the PMP exam?

Please see the following qualification criteria:

High school diploma, associates degree or global equivalent secondary school diploma

Sixty unique (non-overlapping) months of project management experience within the eight-year period prior to the application

Thirty-five contact hours of project management education. 

Baccalaureate or global equivalent university degree, and/or an advanced degree

Thirty-six unique (non-overlapping) months of project management experience within the eight-year period prior to the application

Thirty-five contact hours of project management education.

How is the PMP exam changing?

As the project management profession matures, the PMP credential evolves as well. PMI ensures that project management practitioners who obtain the PMP credential are well-versed in the latest trends in project management and have met requirements that reflect the evolving profession. 

What should I expect when I take the PMP exam?

The exam is computer-based and is composed of 180 questions. The allotted time to take the exam is 3 hours and 50 minutes as well as two, 10-minute breaks.
